This first post will be short due to thunderstorms in the region. The electricity here has a nasty tendency to flake out on me.
I started a blog entitled "Religious Wrongs" several years ago and had acquired a decent readership. Unfortunately, life interfered and I needed to pull away from this particular blog for awhile. I thought long and hard before starting this up again. After all, putting myself out there as a progressive did not necessarily endear me to a lot of people. However, my need to tell the truth won out and I'm back.
I'd love to say that the last few years have brought improvement in this area. Most of us fervently want to believe that Christians live up to their "obligations." They should follow the teachings of Jesus and love their fellow human while doing everything possible to take everyone with them to heaven. In reality, this just isn't the case and it seems to be getting worse.
I simply cannot fathom how someone can call him/herself a Christian while praying for the assassination of our President; yet, it happens every day.
And it's not all about religion. Conservative men and women are blogging daily about the dangers of gay marriage, health care reform and the illegal aliens that cross our borders. In order to push their own agenda forward they are willing to use blatant lies and dense stupidity. How many times must we see a Conservative politician contradict what he said earlier in front of the media? Do they not remember that this is an age of transparency?
I am not an idealist. I realize I will not change the minds and hearts of those who are willing to cheat and lie simply by pointing out reality. I also realize I am not the only progressive thinker out there trying to convince people who are no longer listening. I also realize I must speak the truth. For though the truth may not set an ultra Conservative free, it will set me free. I will be able to face myself in the mirror on a daily basis knowing I have spoken and some have heard.
The storm approacheth. And so I must go on to something I can leave quickly if the lightening decides to threaten my electricity.
And so, until tomorrow...
